Zoned Audio System, Multiple Wireless units and Projection Installation

Description

The UVA Foundation was converting a former Carriage House on the Morven Estate into a premier conference facility for the University of Virginia. In an integral part of that conversion process, we designed a zoned audio system for presentations as well as background music, 7 wireless microphones able to be used anywhere in the facility, and two projection systems: one in the Meeting Room, and another in the Theater. A zoned system distributes sound to five areas in the carriage house, including the Dining Room and the Theater. Speaker cable was also installed in the walls surrounding the Terrace to provide audio to any meetings taking place in front of the building. A respect for the formal architecture and interior design of the space called for clean and discreet installation standards: flush mounted ceiling speakers were installed in the main spaces, all cables were run in the walls with jack plates, and a drop-down projection screen was hidden in the meeting room ceiling. Wall jacks provide connections to the audio and projection systems via computer or DVD players. Additionally, the system allows for audio to be provided by multiple sources from microphones to CD, laptop, DVD or radio.

About Morven
(from The University of Virginia Foundation website)

In 2001, businessman and philanthropist John W. Kluge made a gift of historic Morven Farm to the University of Virginia for academic purposes and educational use.

Mr. Kluge's generosity provides a unique opportunity to extend Thomas Jefferson's vision for public education beyond the Grounds. Morven Farm offers an ideal environment for the development of a new kind of Academical Village where gifted students, eminent scholars, visiting dignitaries, master artists, and renowned scientists can live and work together and share ideas in a community designed to advance thinking, learning, and scholarship. The University is implementing pilot programs while planning how to best utilize the architectural, cultural, and ecological resources of the 2,913-acre Morven estate. The gift not only offers the potential to transform areas of excellence into international centers of preeminence but also creates an opportunity to strengthen programs demonstrating great promise. Additionally, it will enable the University to enhance public outreach initiatives and bolster relations with the community it serves.
