Description

The sound system for Charlottesville High School’s Stadium had begun to fail after years of use. Typical of older stadium systems, the original PA consisted of a number of megaphone-style speakers mounted at intervals around the venue, with the delayed sound making speech difficult to understand. The school’s athletic director wanted a system that worked equally well for announcements, live singing, events like Homecoming, and for stereo-quality music for pre-game warm-ups and intermissions. Heinz’ solution was to localize the sound source, installing two main speakers and two side-fill speakers on the press box. This solution offered ample volume and coverage for the home team’s bleachers as well as the visitors stands across the field. We incorporated a new wireless microphone for use in the press box or on the field for presentations, or the singing of the national anthem. The athletic director also requested a solution for the smaller fields. So we designed the stadium’s powered mixer to be portable, allowing it to be taken to other fields in tandem with a pair of stand-mounted speakers, offering maximum flexibility for all types of events outside the stadium.
