Zoned Sound System and Video Installation
Description
Pioneering a bistro and market concept at the ground level of their Observatory Hill Dining facility, UVA Dining Services asked us to submit an audio-video proposal. Crossroads has two distinct areas: the market, which combines a convenience store with a grille, deli and pizza concepts running parallel to a food court seating area separated by a sheetrock and glass block wall. The goal was to have XM satellite music playing throughout the store and either music or cable television in the seating area.
The solution was to place four wall-mounted speakers in the market for complete sound coverage of the irregularly shaped room, and two speakers in the seating area. XM radio can be sent to one or both of the two sound zones, which can be programmed to provide either TV or music audio. We installed a specialty custom designed frame mount system which positioned two flat-panel LCD monitors at an angled back-to-back position, giving a clear view of a screen from either end of the food court. Speaker positioning allows both spaces to operate independently with minimal sound-overspill, either from the adjoining spaces, or the dining hall upstairs.
